Procedures to Obtain Dorm Network Connections

You may not access the Internet via the wired and wireless network before registering your computer and updating the operating system installed in your computer for accessing the Internet.  Be sure that your DHCP Configuration and proxy server setting is configured. Please follow the steps in the following:

Connect the network cable

Configure your DHCP setting

Configure your Proxy server setting

submit your application via the registration page

Download and run the registry file via the WSUS site

you may access the Internet after one or two hours.

Attention: We recommend that your computer has to be installed the antivirus software to avoid the virus infection. Your Internet connection has been suspended temporarily, due to the abnormal network connection or attacking other computer cause by virus infection.  After the computer virus cleaned, Your access right will be approved again.


Connect the network cable

Connect your own computer’s network cable to the data jack(yellow tag) as shown below.


Configure your computer to obtain an IP address automatically using DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol).

Configure Windows 7 for DHCP

STEP 1:

Start ¡÷ Control Panel

STEP 2:

Double click the View networks status and tasks icon.

STEP 3:

Click the Change adapter settings.

STEP 4:

Right click on the Local Area Connection icon ¡÷ Select Properties from Context Menu

STEP 5:

Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)

click on Properties

STEP 6:

Configure IP address and DNS using DHCP

Select Obtain an IP address automatically

Select Obtain DNS server address automatically

Press OK


Configure Proxy Server for the Internet Connection

STEP1 :

Open Internet Explorer ¡÷ Click the Tools icon ¡÷ Click the Internet Options icon

STEP2 :

Click the Connections tab ¡÷ Click the LAN settings icon.

Select Use automatic configuration script

Type in http://proxy.yzu.edu.tw/proxy.pac(see screenshot below)

Press OK to complete the P ROXY SERVER configuration


Register Your Computer for Internet Access

STEP 1:

Visit the website :http://net.yzu.edu.tw , this page will be redirect automatically to the the registration page.

STEP 2:

Enter your EMAIL ACCOUNT and PASSWORD

STEP 3:

The physical address which named Login MAC is detected automatically by the network management system. If you want to update the physical address , please fill out the new physical address to MAC.

STEP 4:

After you submit your application via the registration page, you should download and run the registry file via the WSUS site in 30 min.


Windows Updates:

Configure Windows Automatic Updates Using a Registry File

STEP 1:

Visit the websitehttp://wsus.yzu.edu.tw



Select the scheduled time to download and save a Registry File to a storage device (ex: Hard Disk/USB Flash Disk)

STEP 2:

Click the registry file to set up Windows Updates to automatically start at the scheduled time (see screenshot below)

STEP 3:

Download Client Detection Tool (detect.bat) and save it to a storage device.

STEP 4:

Restart your computer.

STEP 5:

right click on the detect.bat and select ¡yRun as Administrator¡z


Installation of Antivirus Software (Academic Volume License)

STEP 1:

Enter the website http://antivirus.yzu.edu.tw to download the Antivirus Software

Click on the English icon (see screenshot below)

STEP 2:

Enter your Student ID (User Name) and Password ¡÷ Press OK

STEP 3:

Click on the WindowsWorkstation(WinXP,WinVista,Win7).exe icon to download the antivirus file for Windows XP/7

STEP 4:

Save the Antivirus File to a device storage (ex. Hard Disk)

Note: Upon being saved, the antivirus file will be installed automatically afterwards.
